A superstition can be a false belief, a taboo, propaganda or just fake news that the Internet is used to expose as false
Assignment: Research a superstition that the Internet has exposed as untrue.
We are exploring the power of social media and the internet generally to show that tradional superstitions and taboos can be destroyed quickly because of the culture surrounding Internet beliefs.
The Internet can spread false beliefs and fake news, but it can also clean up old reliances on superstitions that have no basis in reality. We will find some of those superstitions that used to hold sway over people but are no longer part of what they believe to be true about the world and the people in it.
As we have explored in this course before, a false belief can cost and has cost people their lives.
The larger question we always have in mind in this class is how do we develop a filter to keep false beliefs out of our belief system for our entire lives, even as the world changes dramatically from day to day, week to week, year to year, decade to decade, and generation to generation?
